The four demonstrative pronouns in English include this, that, these and those. They can refer to things in space or time, and they can be either singular or plural. This and these refer to items that are close by in space or time whereas that and those refer to things that are far away in space or time. This and that refer to singular nouns whereas these and those refer to

I understand that a demonstrative pronoun is a word that replaces a noun as if pointing to it. For example, ;I want to buy a car. This one is cheap. Demonstrative pronouns are pronouns that 'demonstrate' or add specificity to a noun. There are two types of demonstrative pronouns in Old English, the ';es - this' pronouns and the 'se - that' pronouns. The 'se' pronouns are also what we use for 'the' so it is important to remember that any of the pronouns in the 'se' category can be translated as either 'the' or 'that'. As before, remember that

How to Use Demonstrative Pronouns: Noun Phrase Replacement. Normally, replacing a noun phrase with a demonstrative pronoun is not very challenging difficult. In English, we use demonstratives to give information about if something is close to us or far from us. If something is close, we use this singular or these plural. If something is not close to us, we use that singular or those plural. The word aherea can give us a clue to use this or these, and atherea can tell us that or those would be more appropriate.
