A gerund always acts as a noun. Therefore a gerund can be a subject, object, complement,* or object of a preposition. * Complement is a word, clause, or a phrase that is required to complete the meaning of a sentence. Complements will be explained in detail in a separate post

ऐसा लगता है जैसे कि company तुम चला रहे हो |

Gerunds are words that are formed with verbs but act as nouns. Theyare very easy to spot, since every gerund is a verb with ing tacked to its tail. There are no exceptions to this rule. Like all things grammar, gerunds do take a tiny bit of detective work to spot.

 

मैंने उसे रास्ते में बहुत परेशान किया |

I harassed him a lot on the route.

मैंने कभी नहीं सोंचा था कि मैं उसे इस हाल में देखूंगा |

I never thought I wouId ever see him in this state.

क्या हुआ ? क्यों चिल्ला रहे हो ?

तुम कहाँ थे ?

A gerund can be either the subject or object of a sentence in English, e.g. 'Cycling is fun ' or 'I enjoy cycling '. Gerunds are verbal nouns, and I remember that they are used in a special way in Latin.

 

तुम क्यों नहीं करते यह ?

अगर तुम आत्महत्या नहीं करने वाले थे तो तुम यहाँ आये क्यों थे ?

Gerund as Object of Preposition Because a gerund is a noun, it can be the object of a preposition in a prepositional phrase.

 

हमें उसे fees नहीं देनी चाहिए थी |

We shouldn't have given him the fees.

अगर कोई गड़बड़ की तो मैं तुझे बहुत पीटूँगा |

If you made any mistake,I will bash you!

वह चिढ़ गया और मुझे बाहर जाने के लिए कहा |

He got pissed-off and asked me to get out!

तुम इस tone मैं उससे दुबारा बात नहीं करोगे |

you won't talk to him in this tone again.

 

Gerund as Object of Preposition Because a gerund is a noun, it can be the object of a preposition in a prepositional phrase.

 

मुझे पछतावे का एक मौका देदो |

Give me a chance to repent.

तुम इतनी छोटी छोटी बात पर गुस्सा क्यों हो जाती हो |

Why do you get angry with such a small matter?

थोड़ी देर पहले |

A while ago.

बेफालतू में हमें परेशान मत करो |
