A gerund can be either the subject or object of a sentence in English, e.g. 'Cycling is fun ' or 'I enjoy cycling '. Gerunds are verbal nouns, and I remember that they are used in a special way

 

तुम थके होगे जा के सो जाओ |

You must be tired, go to sleep.

वह अन्दर गया होगा |

He must have gone inside

मैं तुम लोगो की वजह से बर्बाद हो गया | मैं अपनी माँ को क्या कहूँगा ?

l am ruined because of you all. What will l tell my mother?

Gerunds are words that are formed with verbs but act as nouns. Theyare very easy to spot, since every gerund is a verb with ing tacked to its tail. There are no exceptions to this rule. Like all things grammar, gerunds do take a tiny bit of detective work to spot.

 

वह बात नहीं करना चाहती | जो कहना है मुझे कहो |

She is not willing to talk. Tell me whatever it is.

तुम घर जाओ | यहाँ पर बहुत खतरा है |

You go to home.  there is a lot of danger over here.

वह उसके कान में कुछ खुसफुसा रही थी | और उसके बात वह उसे लेके चली गई |

She was whispering something in her ears. And, after that she took her along.

तुम्हें पहले मुझसे बात करनी चाहिए थी |

You should’ve spoken to me first.

 

A gerund is a verb in its ing present participle form that functions as a noun that names an activity rather than a person or thing. Any action verb can be made into a gerund. Spelling Tip. Verbing Present Participle Add ing to most verbs. Ex. play gt; playing, cry gt; crying, bark gt; barking; For verbs that end in e, remove the e and add ing.

 

मैं जो कुछ कहूँगा तुम विश्वास नहीं करोगे |

No matter what I say, you won't believe it.

मैं अब तुमसे गुस्सा नहीं हूँ |

I am no longer angry with you.

मैं मुजरिम नहीं हूँ, चाहो तो अपने पडोसी से पूँछ लो |

l'm not a criminal, ask you neighbour if you wish.

In English, it has the properties of both verb and noun, such as being modifiable by an adverb and being able to take a direct object.

 

अपना टैलेंट यही बर्बाद करने का इरादा है क्या ?

do you intend wasting your talent over here?

मैं तुम्हे लखनऊ दिखाना चाहता हूँ |

I want to show you Lucknow

मुझे डर लग रहा है | उसका कोई फ़ोन भी नहीं आया |

I'm getting scared. There isn't even a phone call.

तुम्हारा एक्सीडेंट हो गया था इसलिए हम तुम्हें यहाँ ले आये |

You had an accident that is why we brought you here.

 

Gerund as Object of Preposition Because a gerund is a noun, it can be the object of a preposition in a prepositional phrase.

 

यह पीतल है सोने का नकली पानी चढ़ा हहुआ |

It's brass coated with fake gold!

कहाँ मर गए थे तुम लोग |

Where the hell were you?!

इस साल भी कोई बारिश नहीं होगी |

There'll be no rain this year too.

तुम्हारे पिता तुमसे यह छुपाना चाहते थे |

Your dad wanted to hide it from you.

तुम कभी नहीं बदलोगे |

तुम मुझे कभी ढूंढ नहीं पाते |
