Gerund as Object of Preposition Because a gerund is a noun, it can be the object of a preposition in a prepositional phrase.

 

कार खराब हो गई थी |

The car broke down.

बेवकूफ, सही से number डायल नहीं कर सकता |

Idiot, can't diaI correctIy.

खा रहा हूँ |

I'm having right now.

एक करोड़ बहुत बड़ा amount है |

A gerund is a verb in its ing present participle form that functions as a noun that names an activity rather than a person or thing. Any action verb can be made into a gerund. Spelling Tip. Verbing Present Participle Add ing to most verbs. Ex. play gt; playing, cry gt; crying, bark gt; barking; For verbs that end in e, remove the e and add ing.

 

आप दोनों कहाँ जा रहे है ?

Where are you both going?

दिखाना कान की बाली |

In English, it has the properties of both verb and noun, such as being modifiable by an adverb and being able to take a direct object.

 

मैं तुम्हे नास्ते के लिए बुलाने आयी थी |

l came to call you for breakfast.

सच कहूँ, मुझे तुमसे पहले नजर में प्यार हो गया था |

To be honest, l fell in love with you at first sight.

बता मुझे | किसने मारा तुझे | हम उसे नहीं छोड़ेंगे |

The gerund looks exactly the same as a present participle, but it is useful to understand the difference between the two. A gerund can be either the subject or object of a sentence in English, e.g. 'Cycling is fun ' or 'I enjoy cycling '. Gerunds are verbal nouns, and I remember that they are used in a special way

Knowing the difference between gerund and infinitive can save you from making costly grammar mistakes when writing. In a nutshell, a word formed from a verb acting as a noun and ending in ing is a gerund. Infinitive phrases a normally referred to as infinitives a are formed with the word to in front of a verb. Both gerunds and infinitives can be subjects in sentences, and both

 

मुझे बस मेरे पैसों से मतलब है |

All I care about is my money.

जब मैं वापस आऊँ तो मुझे ऐसी है मिलना जैसी अब हो |

when I come back, I want to see you just the way you are now.

लेकिन तुमने मेरे लिए यह क्यों किया ?

मैं नहीं रोक सकता | मैं कार में ही कर दूंगा |

Gerunds are words that are formed with verbs but act as nouns. Theyare very easy to spot, since every gerund is a verb with ing tacked to its tail. There are no exceptions to this rule. Like all things grammar, gerunds do take a tiny bit of detective work to spot.

 

कहाँ थे तुम रात भर ? बेचार कितना परेशान था |

Where were you all night? Poor fellow was so worried!

तुमसे तो मैं बाद में निपटती हूँ |

I'll deal with you later.

यह खरीदने के लिए तुम्हें पैसे कहाँ से मिले ?

Where did you get the money to buy this?
