Hard rule: You will always use gerunds after prepositions. When you want to use a verb after a preposition, the rule is simple: it must be in the gerund / verb-ing form. Infinitive verbs link are never used after a preposition. As a quick reminder, prepositions are words that indicate where a noun or pronoun is in relation to another word. The gerund looks exactly the same as a present participle, but it is useful to understand the difference between the two. Gerunds. Gerunds are an important grammar form to understand and to be able to use effectively in the IELTS test and in your English more generally. They are nouns and they are formed by adding -ing onto a verb. Take a look at this paragraph - the gerunds are in red.

Both are correct but in  % cases we use gerund as a subject of a sentence because it sounds more natural. aTo learna is more abstract. The gerund in compound nouns In compound nouns using the gerund, it is clear that the meaning is that of a noun, not of a continuous verb. For example, with the word ;swimming pool; it is a pool for swimming in, it is not a pool that is swimming.
